A smoke advisory warning has been issued for communities southwest of the Red Deer River Valley.

Alberta Health Services extended its precautionary advisory due to the continued prescribed burn activity in the valley. The first advisory was issued on Friday.

The extended advisory now covers the communities of Sundre, Olds, Cremona, Water Valley, Carstairs and Didsbury. The advisory remains in effect until further notice.

Should the wind forecast shift, the communities of Rocky Mountain House and Caroline may also be affected.

While minor smoky conditions do not typically cause health concerns in most healthy individuals, Alberta Health Services urge residents to monitor their health and adapt their activities as necessary.

If smoke conditions become more severe, even healthy individuals can experience eye and throat irritation, and shortness of breath.

Individuals with respiratory conditions and existing cardiovascular conditions may notice a worsening of their symptoms. These individuals are advised to the precautions and steps taken when they experience worsening of their symptoms.

Individuals can speak with a registered nurse at Health Link Alberta by calling toll-free at 1-866-408-LINK (5465). Health Link Alberta is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
