Solid weekend for Red Deer Vipers

David Foord, Kolton Gillett, Jeff Kohut and Cole DeGraaf each scored once and added an assist Saturday as the Red Deer Vipers concluded a successful Heritage Junior B Hockey League weekend with a 5-1 win over the host Strathmore Wheatland Kings.

Colton Brule also scored for the Vipers, who outshot their hosts 39-31. Jason Pohl made 30 saves for Red Deer.

The Vipers scored a 3-2 victory over the host Stettler Lightning Friday, getting goals from DeGraaf, Tanner Howe and Steve Cormack. Landon Potter and Derek Muhlbach replied for the Lightning.

Jaren Nickle made 30 saves for Red Deer, four fewer than Stettler’s Simon Thieleman.

• The Lightning suffered a 5-4 loss to the host Medicine Hat Cubs Saturday as Muhlbach, Tyson Glazier, Lyle Wooden and Luca Bozzetto connected in a losing cause.

Thieleman made 45 saves as each team had 50 shots on goal.

• The Blackfalds Wranglers, with Karson French firing four goals, slipped past visiting Strathmore 6-5 Sunday.

Cameron Tenson and Kris Dalton also scored for the Wranglers, who got a 29-save outing from Reagan Hughes. Richie Hubbell made 43 saves for Strathmore.

The Wranglers were 5-2 winners over the host High River Flyers Friday as French, Jared Williams, Dalen Kolybaba, Jared Guilbault and Bryce Veuger supplied the goals.

Layne Swier made 28 saves for Blackfalds, while High River stopper Jordan Cartney blocked 26 shots.

• The Three Hills Thrashers earned three weekend points at home with a 9-1 thumping of the Ponoka Stampeders and a 2-2 draw with the Okotoks Bisons.

Calvin Main recorded a hat trick against Ponoka, with Tyler Severtson scoring twice and Matt Wildeman, Cameron Braun, Kevin Belt and Daniel Stollery rounding out the Three Hills attack. Kenton Siegle potted the lone goal for the Stamps.

Brady Hoover made 18 saves for the Thrashers. Ponoka goaltender Aaron Swier stopped 51 shots.

Connor Ablett and Jesse Scheunert scored second-period goals for the Thrashers versus Okotoks. Devon Dell blocked 37 shots for the hosts and Tyler Hughes made 34 saves for the Bisons.
