Red Deer’s Dallas Soonias played a major role in Canada’s advancement to the FIVB World League finals for the first time in their history.
The Canadians downed Japan 25-23, 23-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-7 in their final preliminary match, leaving them with an 8-2 record. It was their sixth straight victory and earned them a berth in the six-team final, set to begin Wednesday in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
Soonias led the Canadians with 24 points.
