Spartans, Storm win opening games in ladies basketball

The Spartans and the Collins Barrow Storm won their opening round games in Pool A of the North Star Ladies’ Basketball League Tuesday.The Spartans downed the All-Stars 55-51 while the Storm stopped the Funk 44-29.Carla Stewart had 19 points and Cassie Stewart 12 for the Spartans while Melanie Darlington had 12 points and Crista Oke 11 for the All-Stars.

The Spartans downed the All-Stars 55-51 while the Storm stopped the Funk 44-29.

Carla Stewart had 19 points and Cassie Stewart 12 for the Spartans while Melanie Darlington had 12 points and Crista Oke 11 for the All-Stars.

The Storm got 12 points from Shannon Van Parys and eight from Krista DeWit-Wright while Alison Lundall had 17 points in a losing cause.

The Spartans face Lacombe Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Central Alberta Christian High School in Lacombe while the two losers meet at 8:30 p.m. The Storm receives a bye.

In Pool B the Big Ballers downed The Bank 46-29 and the Shooting Stars defeated Spare Change 53-40.

Michelle Vick and Alana Sherba had 14 points each for the Ballers with Ciana Cameron hitting nine points for The Bank.

Jacquie Myers and Jocelyn Loree led the Shooting Stars with 12 points each while Vicki Roth had 14 for Spare Change.

The Ballers face Triple Threat Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Lindsay Thurber with the two losers clashing at 8:30 p.m. The Stars receive a bye.
