Manufacturing companies can reap multiple benefits by tapping into the scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) program, but many just don’t know about it.

Manufacturing companies can reap multiple benefits by tapping into the scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) program, but many just don’t know about it.

Jason Fitzgerald, SR&ED manager with the Calgary office of BDO Canada LLP, one of the largest accounting and advisory firms in the country, will be in Red Deer to offer his advice on how companies can make the most out of the SR&ED program.

He will be one of two guest speakers at a Lunch & Learn session sponsored by the Central Alberta Rural Manufacturers Association (CARMA) next Wednesday.

Most importantly, Fitzgerald will talk about key changes made to the SR&ED program as outlined in the 2012 federal budget.

He will specifically address how these changes will affect investment tax credits for Canadian-controlled private corporations, as well other corporations.

The session will also feature Elaine Garnet, a SR&ED consultant with the Red Deer office of BDO.

Garnet will explain the tax credit program, including criteria, and describe what type of company activities can be included.

The Lunch & Learn session runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. The free event will be held at the CARMA office at No. 9, 4646 Riverside Drive.

Participants are asked to register by visiting www.carmagroup.ca or calling the CARMA office at 403-347-2276.
