The Red Deer Sports World Braves posted a 3-0 record in midget AA baseball league action in Innisfail during the weekend.
The Braves opened with a 26-3 win over the host Innisfail Indians before beating the Lacombe Dodgers 20-5 and the Rocky Mountain House Sun Devils 14-0. All three games were called after five innings.
Jesse Muirhead started against the Indians, allowing four hits over three innings with Teagan Colonna tossing two innings of no-hit relief.
Jeff Ireland was three-for-five at the plate and drove in four runs while Reid Stoyberg was three-for-three with a double and three RBIs.
Logan Marshall was two-for-two with a single and a double and drove in three with Alex Heinzlmeir walking twice, scoring twice and driving in three runs.
Colonna scored four times on three hits and a walk while Jayden Hutlet reached base four times and scored four times. Blake Thomson singled, scored and drove in two runs while Tyler Galloway was two-for-three with two runs.
Logan Marshall started on the hill against the Dodgers and tossed a six-hit complete game.
The Braves never trailed exploding for nine runs in fifth inning, keyed by Hutlet’s three-run home run.
Jesse Kowalchuk was three-for-three with three RBIs and scoring three times. Galloway was two-for-three with a run-scoring double while Thomson was two-for-four and scored there times. Alec Mitchell singled, walked and scored three runs with Stoyberg adding a pair of hits and two RBIs.
Joe Ireland tossed three innings of one-hit ball while Galloway worked two innings, allowing two hits.
Chaz Piche doubled, singled and drew two walks while scoring four times.
Hutlet was three-for-four with a triple and had two runs while Stoyberg was three-for-three, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Marshall singled, tripled, scored twice and had two RBIs with Colonna adding a single, a walk and two runs. Jeff Ireland singled, walked, scored once and drove in a run.
The trio of victories gave the Braves a 6-0 record in round one of league play. The second round begins in early June.
