CALGARY — A Calgary company that produces pipe for the construction and energy industries has been hit by a fire.

Police say 50 workers have been safely evacuated from the Prudential Steel plant.

One person was transported to hospital due to minor smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have started in a pit 4 1/2 metres deep that had oil covering the bottom.

Smoke filled the entire building and the plant’s oversized fans were use to ventilate the structure.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
