EDMONTON — Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach is upset that an anti-oilsands documentary received provincial funding.

EDMONTON — Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach is upset that an anti-oilsands documentary received provincial funding.

But Stelmach isn’t apologizing for the $54,000 received by the producers of the movie “Dirty Oil,” saying that allowing politicians to make funding decisions based on content could lead to censorship.

Stelmach said the funding program in question is under review as part of a general consideration of all government programs.

The producers received the money based strictly on the amount of Alberta involvement and how much money was spent in the province.

Stelmach says the province has benefited greatly from film activity in the province through direct economic impact and boosting tourism.
