The Stettler Wildcats ground out a close 15-9 win over the West Central Rebels on Thursday in Central Alberta High School Football League action.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE — The Stettler Wildcats ground out a close 15-9 win over the West Central Rebels on Thursday in Central Alberta High School Football League action.

Braedon Nelson scampered 65 yards for a touchdown, also the game’s biggest gain from scrimmage. Nelson finished with 158 yards on 20 carries.

Tyler Stewart also had a touchdown for the Wildcats while Clayton Steen converted Nelson’s major.

West Central also surrendured a safety on a punt.

Every yard the Wildcats gained was on the ground, the only pass they completed was to the wrong team as Devin Chatney came up with his fourth pick of the season for West Central.

Chris Soodsma did all of the scoring for the Rebels kicking a field goal in the first half and added a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Wayde Hodgen led the Rebels with six carries for 32 yards while Soodsma had seven carries for 26 yards and three catches for 43 yards.

Quarterback Brayden Friesen finished the game completing five of 13 passes for 56 yards.
