Sting ringette teams earn gold at Ice Breaker tournament

A pair of Central Alberta Sting ringette teams earned gold in the Central Alberta AA Ice Breaker tournament in Red Deer during the weekend.

A pair of Central Alberta Sting ringette teams earned gold in the Central Alberta AA Ice Breaker tournament in Red Deer during the weekend.

The U14 and U19 squads both struck gold while the U16 team lost in the semifinal.

The U14 Sting went undefeated, beating the Calgary Snipe 11-8 in the final. They downed the Edmonton Elite 14-3 in the semifinal after defeating the Snipe 9-2, the Elite 9-1 and the Zone 5 Ambush 14-2 in round-robin play.

The U19 Sting finished second in the double round-robin before beating the Zone 5 Grit 5-4 in the final.

In the first round-robin, they downed the Edmonton Elite 8-3 and lost 6-2 to the Grit. They then tied the Elite 5-5 and lost 10-5 to the Grit.

The U16 Sting finished fourth in the round-robin, losing 8-7 to the Elite, 9-2 to the U19 A Calgary Chiefs and 3-1 to the Zone 5 Havoc. They lost 3-1 to the Havoc in the semifinals.
