A man in Edmonton has been killed in an industrial accident involving a forklift.

EDMONTON — A man in Edmonton has been killed in an industrial accident involving a forklift.

Alberta Occupational Health and Safety says the 63-year-old victim was caught Thursday afternoon between the moving parts of the machine at northeast-area business.

The man’s name has not been released.

Barrie Harrison, a spokesman for the provincial department, says the equipment has been seized for an investigation and a stop-work order has been issued.

The accident comes near the end of a year which saw a big jump in fines slapped on Alberta employers for worksite safety violations.

Occupational Health and Safety says fines and penalties against employers for worksite safety violations almost doubled to $3.4 million.
