VANCOUVER — Police say a 27-year-old Surrey, B.C., man who volunteered to work Christmas Day so that his boss could enjoy the holiday has been killed by gunfire.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says police and BC Ambulance Service members responded to a call in north Surrey late Sunday afternoon.

She says when they arrived at the scene, a convenience store, they found Alok Gupta was unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Pound says Gupta was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they have been canvassing the mostly residential area and are looking for anybody who has information on the killing.

The shooting was the third to hit Surrey in about 36 hours.
