HINTON — A judge has brought down a three-year suspended sentence for an Alberta man who pleaded guilty to letting his horses run loose along two busy highways.

William Gosney of Hinton was charged with seven counts under the provincial Stray Animals Act, along with two counts of mischief under the Criminal Code.

Court heard the RCMP and government workers rounded up 26 horses that roamed free along Highways 16 and 40 between December 2008 and last March.

Police said there were 58 complaints of horses straying onto the roads.

There were also three collisions between vehicles and the animals.
