A suspicious looking package containing magazines kept Red Deer City RCMP busy for hours in Southpointe Common on Monday.
At 11 a.m., Red Deer City RCMP were called to Sears Home Store at 5001 19th St., where a package wrapped with brown paper with no markings was found in front of the store.
The store was evacuated and a section of the parking lot was closed to the public.
The local RCMP could not determine the contents and the Edmonton-based RCMP explosives disposal unit was called in to assist.
At 3 p.m., the explosives unit determined the package posed no threat. The package was opened to reveal a number of magazines.
The store and the parking lot were re-opened at 3:30 p.m.
