The Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs opened the girls’ division of the Calgary Mac’s midget AAA hockey tournament with a 2-1 win over the Regina Rebels Sunday afternoon.

The Chiefs have today off before returning to action Tuesday at 8 a.m. against the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets.

They clash with the Westman Wildcats of Manitoba Wednesday at 1 p.m. and the Calgary Bruins Thursday at 3:30 p.m. All the games are at the Max Bell Arena.

The Bruins downed the Wildcats 6-1 in the other game in the pool Sunday.

The Red Deer Optimist Rebels open play in the boys’ division today at 9 a.m. against the Prince Albert Mintos at Father David Bauer Arena.

They meet the UFA Bisons Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Father David Bauer before clashing with the Winnipeg Wild Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. at Max Bell and the Valley West Hawks Thursday at 11:45 a.m. at the Flames Arena.

The quarter-finals and semifinals are set for Friday with the girls’ final at 10 a.m. and the boys’ final at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Saddledome.
