Former Red Deer Rebels captain Brandon Sutter has signed a three-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Former Red Deer Rebels captain Brandon Sutter has signed a three-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. Sutter, who played in all 82 games last season and led the Hurricanes in plus/minus at plus-13 and blocked shots with 73, will be paid $1.5 million in 2011-12, $2 million in 2012-13 and $2.7 million in the third season. The 22-year-old was the ‘Canes first-round selection in the 2007 NHL entry draft. “Brandon is one of the cornerstones of our franchise moving forward,” Carolina president/GM Jim Rutherford said on the team’s website. “He is an extremely intelligent player who can perform in all situations and has already grown into a leadership position for the Hurricanes at a very young age.” Sutter has totalled 36 goals and 75 points in 204 career games with the Hurricanes.
