Sydora perfect in Optimist Rebels win

Dasan Sydora stopped all 26 shots he faced and BJ Duffin and Ty Mappin each scored twice as the Red Deer Optimist Rebels cruised past the host Edmonton Maple Leafs 6-0 in Alberta Midget Hockey League play Sunday.

Chase Thudium, who was called up from the minor midget AAA ranks with four Rebels regulars out with injuries, and Nick Glackin accounted for the other Red Deer goals.

The Optimist Rebels held a 27-26 advantage in shots.

On Saturday, the Optimist Rebels quelled the host Grande Prairie Storm 8-1 as Brady Bakke exploded for six goals. Scott Ferguson and Glackin each scored once for Red Deer, while defenceman Joel Topping chipped in wth three assists and Matt Zentner made 17 saves.

Red Deer will host the Calgary Royals next Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Arena.

• Sydora and Topping have been named to the South Division first team and will join teammates Logan Fisher and Scott Feser in the AMHL all-star game Feb. 5 at Edmonton.

The South team will be coached by the Rebels staff, led by head man Doug Quinn.
