Sylvan Lake Admirals win pair on weekend

The Sylvan Lake Admirals racked up a pair of Chinook Hockey League weekend wins, edging the visiting Stony Plain Eagles 6-5 and blanking the host Carstairs Redhawks 4-0.

The Sylvan Lake Admirals racked up a pair of Chinook Hockey League weekend wins, edging the visiting Stony Plain Eagles 6-5 and blanking the host Carstairs Redhawks 4-0.

Jordan McLaughlin made 37 saves to shut out the Redhawks Saturday at the Carstairs Memorial Complex, where Cody Esposito fired three goals to lead the Admirals and Ernie Stewart also tallied. The visitors tested Carstairs goaltender Kyle Seidel with 35 shots.

In Friday’s victory over Stony Plain, Esposito scored twice and Stewart, Curtis Senkow, Turner Lachance and Matt Register had singles for the Admirals. McLaughlin stopped 30 shots for the win.

Justin Cox paced the Eagles with a goal and three assists. Stony Plain netminder Ryan Fitzsimmons made 33 saves.

l The Bentley Generals coughed up three unanswered third-period goals and fell 4-2 to the visiting Lloydminster Border Kings Saturday night.

Colin McRae and Paul Cabana were the lone Gens to beat Lloydminster goaltender Jody Lehman, who made 23 saves.

Scott Galenza blocked 29 shots as the Generals suffered their third defeat of the season.

Bentley opened the weekend with a 6-2 win over the host Innisfail Eagles Friday as Sean Robertson scored once and contributed three assists and Curtis Austring, Spencer Gyori, Darryl LaPlante, Scott Doucet and Darren Deschamps also connected for the visitors.

Galenza made 20 saves, while Wade Waters stopped 49 shots for the Eagles.

Innisfail took it on the chin Saturday, traveling to Fort Saskatchewan and suffering a one-sided 11-1 loss to the Chiefs.

Drew Coles notched the lone goal for the Eagles, who got a 48-save effort from the duo of Waters and eventual loser Evan Miller.

Mark Szott fired three goals for the Chiefs, while Blake Grenier made 26 saves.
