A Sylvan Lake man is dead following a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a tractor trailer unit around noon Wednesday near Sylvan Lake.

Cpl. Mike Calihoo of Sylvan Lake RCMP said RCMP, fire and other emergency responders attended the collision on Hwy 11 near Hwy 11A.

A west bound Nissan Frontier truck crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound Peterbilt tractor trailer unit.

The driver of the Peterbilt attempted to evade the collision but was unable to do so, Calihoo said. Alcohol is not considered a factor.

An RCMP collision analyst was called to assist in the investigation. Traffic was tied up for about three hours at the scene.

No charges are contemplated against the driver of the tractor trailer unit, who wasn’t injured.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.
