A 51-year-old Sylvan Lake man is dead after his van collided with a pick up truck on Hwy 11A on Wednesday.

Blackfalds RCMP say officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 11A, about 1.5 km west of Hwy 2 around 7:30 p.m.

Police say a van travelling east lost control, causing the vehicle to veer into the westbound lane and collide with an oncoming pickup truck.

The driver of the van, a 51-year-old man from Sylvan Lake, was pronounced dead on scene.

The occupants of the pickup truck were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.

Traffic was rerouted around the collision for four hours for the RCMP to conduct the investigation.

Police are not releasing the man’s identity as per the family’s request.
