Details surrounding the National Hockey League pre-season game in Sylvan Lake will be hammered out in the coming weeks. Sylvan Lake Mayor Sean McIntyre and others met with the Kraft Hockeyville group and the NHL for a contest debriefing on Tuesday.

The town was crowned the Kraft Hockeyville 2014 champs on Saturday after defeating its Eastern competitor, Kingston, N.S., in an online voting contest.

Both communities netted $100,000 for arena updates as contest finalists.

The grand prize winner also scored a pre-season NHL game in their community. On Sept. 24, the Phoenix Coyotes will take on the Calgary Flames at the town’s multiplex.

McIntyre said he expects to know more about the plans, including ticket information, in two weeks.

Wetaskiwin MP Blaine Calkins, rose in the House of Commons during Question Period on Wednesday to acknowledge Sylvan Lake’s victory with a poem. He concluded it with

“The Sylvan Lake Lights have seen many great sights.

“But the greatest that they ever will as that Saturday night, amidst cheer and delight.

“Sylvan Lake won Kraft Hockeyville!!!”
