Sylvan Lake has chopped two senior staff positions in an administration shakeup that followed an organizational review.

Assistant chief administrative officer Myron Thompson was informed on Feb. 9 that his position was being eliminated.

The director of protective services position, vacant since last summer, has also been cut, town communications officer Erin Peden said on Friday.

A new information technology administrative assistant position has been created.

The review, conducted by Edmonton-based consultants Beacon for Change Inc., was completed in November and various recommendations will be implemented throughout the year.

“The review was conducted in an effort to ensure town administration is appropriately aligned and has the organizational capacity to turn council’s strategic direction into a successful, practical reality,” says Helen Dietz, the town’s chief administrative officer, in a news release issued Friday.

“We have taken an opportunity to critically examine ourselves in an effort to become a more effective administration. In order to be a leading edge organization, we have to embrace change and the opportunities it provides.”

The project also involves a review of information technology services, updating the job classification system, a salary review and the creation of a salary grid system.

Those measures are expected to be completed by the end of June.

A comprehensive review of the town’s human resources policies is also being undertaken and should be finished by December.
