The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo council has agreed to waive property taxes and utility charges for the residents of Penhorwood Place in Fort McMurray.

Back in March, Penhorwood Place residents were given just 15 minutes to leave the seven-year-old complex after it was deemed structurally unsound.

Council has also agreed to work with the province to improve the permitting and inspection system.

The Penhorwood Place buildings have been reinforced and movers will begin removing possessions starting May 3.

Engineers studied the buildings and determined they will likely never be occupied again.
