A teenage boy has died after being shot in the head in a hunting mishap in northern Alberta.

BLUMENORT — A teenage boy has died after being shot in the head in a hunting mishap in northern Alberta.

RCMP say Chadd Brian Sawan was shot about 5 p.m. Sunday in Blumenort, about 660 kilometres north of Edmonton.

Police found Chadd, who is from the Cadotte Lake area, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The 15-year-old was taken to Fort Vermilion Hospital by ambulance, then airlifted to the Stollery Children’s hospital in Edmonton where he died Monday morning.

Colton Cardinal, 15, said his cousin was visiting family at the time and went on a hunting trip with some relatives.

Colton said Chadd ran in front of a relative right when he was pulling the trigger, leaving everyone in shock.

Police said Chadd was with two 14-year-old boys at the time.

No charges or arrests have been made and police continue to investigate.
