Teen charged in ecstasy deaths

Police have arrested a 16-year-old in the deaths of two girls who took ecstasy at a wedding celebration on a reserve west of Edmonton.

STONY PLAIN— Police have arrested a 16-year-old in the deaths of two girls who took ecstasy at a wedding celebration on a reserve west of Edmonton.

The RCMP say the youth from the Paul Band First Nation faces nine charges, including criminal negligence causing death, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and trafficking.

Trinity Dawn Bird, 15, and Leah Dominique House, 14, spent two days in critical condition in an Edmonton hospital before they were taken off life support within hours of each other.

The youth who has been charged cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He has been released with conditions and is to appear in provincial court in Stony Plain, on May 1.
