Teen charged with sexual assault at private Calgary day home

A 16-year-old youth has been charged with sexual assault at a private day home in northeast Calgary.

CALGARY — A 16-year-old youth has been charged with sexual assault at a private day home in northeast Calgary.

Police say the youth, who lives in the home, is also charged with sexual interference.

Officers were called to the Alberta Children’s Hospital last month by staff who suspected a five-year-old girl who had been admitted was the victim of a sex assault.

The accused’s name can’t be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He is to make his first court appearance Nov. 19.

The day home has been temporarily closed and investigators have contacted the families of all children who usually attend.

The home does not require licensing by the government as it has less than six children in its care.

The operators are co-operating with investigators.
