Tell relatives you wish to be a donor

I am requesting those who would consider donating an organ or body part upon their death, to tell your relatives of your wishes. I know it may be a difficult subject to bring up, but many people will be very glad you did.

I am requesting those who would consider donating an organ or body part upon their death, to tell your relatives of your wishes. I know it may be a difficult subject to bring up, but many people will be very glad you did.

That’s because donating one body can help more people than you can imagine.

If you were needing an organ or tissue to save or enhance your life, wouldn’t you want to be able to receive one if you could? Many people are waiting for a transplant, but because so few people actually make their wishes clearly known to their families, many people are not helped who could be.

I am personally affected by the lack of organs and tissue so needed within our community. My mother needs corneal transplants. If she doesn’t have the transplants, she will continue to lose the ability to see and live independently. Because so few families are deciding to donate the body of their loved one, there are no corneas available to be transplanted even though there are surgeons ready to perform the surgery.

Each and every one of us could need a transplant in our lives, maybe as early as next week. Most of us are happy to hear of a successful transplant that saves or transforms a life.

If you’ve been meaning to tell your loved ones that you would like your body parts donated (organs or tissue) after you die, but haven’t done so yet, please tell them now.

Don’t wait. Lives are depending upon it. Be sure your relatives do know your wishes, what ever they may be.
