Red Deer County has given its blessing to a temporary site for the Benalto train station.

The municipal planning commission supported on Tuesday an application for the temporary placement of the train station.

The plan is to move the train station to a central location in Benalto and then it will move weeks later to its more permanent location.

Dave More, Benalto Booster Club and Centennial Committee chair, said the plan is to move it back to the hamlet and put it on donated land, near its former location.

It will then get ready to become the centrepiece for Benalto’s centennial celebrations in 2014.

Built in 1928, the former Canadian Pacific Railway station will become an information centre, gallery of the hamlet’s history and a gathering place.
