EDMONTON — Edmonton Police are investigating the stabbing death of a worker from Thailand who was celebrating his imminent return to his homeland.

Police say two Thai men were walking to a convenience store early Sunday morning when they were assaulted by up to six Caucasian men.

As they escaped home, the 38-year-old victim came out to help his two friends and was fatally stabbed.

Det. Bill Clark called the attackers a bunch of thugs and appealed to the public for tips in the case.

The victim’s friends lit a stick of incense in his memory and placed it on the ground where he fell bleeding.

His friends say he had worked for around eight months in Alberta and was preparing to buy his ticket home to Thailand to see his family. (CHED)
