A 49-lot housing development near the Summer Village of Birchcliff has received final approvals from Lacombe County council.

A 49-lot housing development near the Summer Village of Birchcliff has received final approvals from Lacombe County council.

The Slopes is being developed on a scenic 49-acre site just northeast of the summer village and will include 33 single-family and 16 semi-detached homes.

Final rezoning and subdivision approvals were received on Thursday.

The project is being developed by Lance and Tracy Skinner and will include a number of water-saving features, such as low-flow toilets and other fixtures.

To conserve potable water, residents won’t be allowed to use it for lawn watering or irrigation.

The development includes trails, a wetland and public day-use area with sports courts.

Dale Freitag, the county’s manager of planning services, said the developers are now preparing for staff review detailed design work for internal roads and the communal water and sewage systems and other infrastructure.

Construction on the four-phase development is expected to begin this year.
