Thieves bulldoze way into bank; flee without cash

Police say thieves tried to smash their way into an Alberta bank, but a passerby thwarted their efforts.

LINDEN — Police say thieves tried to smash their way into an Alberta bank, but a passerby thwarted their efforts.

An employee of ATB Financial Bank in the hamlet of Linden, about 100 kilometres north of Calgary, saw the alleged robbers ramming a Bobcat into the bank Tuesday morning and called police.

The suspects fled in two vehicles, and a bit later, police got a call about an abandoned truck, trailer and Bobcat south of Linden.

As Mounties were checking that out, they got a call that another vehicle was stolen from the town of Acme.

Mounties say the incidents are likely connected.

Police say the vehicles and the ’dozer used at the bank were stolen from Calgary.
