In the spirit of the holidays, everybody from Sylvan Lake town councillors to volunteer firefighters and RCMP officers pulled together to raise $9,150 for five local charities.

A charity silent auction held on Saturday raised thousands for Sylvan Lake’s food bank, Christmas bureau, victim services, the local affordable housing society, and Central Alberta Women’s Shelter.

“I’m so impressed with the generosity of our staff,” said Rae-Anne Ornella, the event’s co-ordinator, who is a licence inspector for the town.

“The holiday spirit was in full force . . . everybody wanted to contribute to these great causes.”

The Sylvan Lake Playgroup Society also volunteered to make the silent auction a success.
