Three youths accused in the fatal shooting of a five-year-old boy on a troubled central Alberta reserve have reserved their pleas.

WETASKIWIN, Alta. — Three youths accused in the fatal shooting of a five-year-old boy on a troubled central Alberta reserve have reserved their pleas.

The three appeared in Wetaskiwin court where their case was put over to Feb. 15.

The teens are charged in the manslaughter of Ethan Yellowbird from the Samson Cree First Nation in Hobbema last July.

The boy was sleeping in his bed when a bullet fired from outside his bedroom wall struck him in the head.

The youths were arrested earlier this month.

Police say they were 13, 16 and 17 at the time of the shooting and are all from the Hobbema area.

The Samson Cree reserve is one of four in the vicinity. The First Nation has struggled with gang violence for years.
