Potential for severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon in the areas of Red Deer, Ponoka, Innisfail and Stettler.
Environment Canada issued an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.
Residents are urged to monitor weather conditions and listen for updated statements. If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.
An unstable airmass sitting over the province today has the potential to produce strong slow moving thunderstorms. These storms may produce locally heavy downpours and local flooding. Large amounts of small hail may also occur. There is also the potential for funnel clouds, however these are unlikely to reach the ground.
