Red Deer RCMP pulled over a vehicle for a minor traffic infraction and discovered more than four kg of the drug psilocybin, known as magic mushrooms.

This seizure on Saturday led to an ongoing police investigation. On Monday, RCMP officers executed a search warrant on an apartment in the 5100 block of 62nd Street and discovered more drugs. Officers seized more than four kg of marijuana and drug trafficking paraphernalia. A 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident.

Police have charged a 24-year-old man from Kindersley, Sask., with drug possession. The man, who can’t be named until his charge is sworn in court, will appear before a Red Deer judge on April 3.

The 26-year-old man remains in police custody and charges of drug trafficking and possession are pending against him.
