Trail into killing during hunt adjourned

A trial for a man alleged to have shot and killed a hunting companion in the Bentley area in November 2010 was adjourned until Jan. 14.

A trial for a man alleged to have shot and killed a hunting companion in the Bentley area in November 2010 was adjourned until Jan. 14.

A judge and jury trial for Herbert Stanley Meister, 58, of Lacombe was scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

The trial could have lasted until March 30.

Meister was charged with criminal negligence using a firearm as well as criminal negligence causing death while using a firearm in connection with an incident on Nov. 29, 2010.

Philip Moore, 55, of Bentley was shot in the abdomen on the next to last day of the hunting season while he was hunting with three others in a heavily wooded area about 13 km west of Bentley.

Meister was released from custody in December 2010.
