Trial set for drug suspect; police still seek brother

A trial has been scheduled for one of two Samson First Nation men charged with trafficking pot.

Shawn Simon, 31, will go to trial in Wetaskiwin provincial court on July 9 to face charges in relation to a police raid of a home on the Samson First Nation on Monday, Jan. 3.

RCMP members from the Maskwacis RCMP at Hobbema allege that the raid, performed with the assistance of RCMP from Wetaskiwin, unearthed a number of weapons as well as a quantity of marijuana estimated to have a street value of $1,100.

Simon was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Also charged was his brother, Allen Wade Simon, 30, who remains at large.
