CHILLIWACK, B.C. — It took just seconds for a quiet stroll to become a chilling nightmare as two moms walked along the banks of the Vedder River, in B.C.’s Fraser Valley.

Chilliwack RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck says the two women were with their babies Monday on a riverside trail about 90 kilometres east of Vancouver.

Wolbeck says the double stroller pushed by one of the moms somehow got away from her and rolled down the embankment, landing on its side in the water.

One of the infants was briefly submerged before the two mothers and a man who was also on the trail leaped into the water and hauled out the stroller.

Everyone involved was checked in hospital but, apart from a badly sprained ankle suffered by one of the women, no one was seriously hurt.

Wolbeck says she often uses the same trail with her kids and can see how the accident could have happened but is thankful for the happy ending.
