CALGARY — Police in Calgary were left scrambling when three people died in separate accidents in the space of an hour and a half.

A man in his early 20s was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on the Trans-Canada Highway just after nine Sunday night.

A woman in her early 70s died about half an hour later in a collision involving two pickup trucks that injured four other people.

Police say alcohol and speed were factors in that crash and the driver and lone occupant of one of vehicles has been arrested.

The final accident happened about an hour later when a 56-year-old man died in the second pedestrian-vehicle collision of the evening when he was hit by a pickup truck.

The names of the victims have not been released.
