AIRDRIE, Alta. — Two men are in stable condition after the ultralight plane they were in crashed northwest of Calgary.

Mounties say the red and white small plane took off from a farmer’s field near Airdrie just before noon, but the pilot couldn’t get enough lift.

Police say as he was abandoning his take-off, he noticed power lines in his flight path and tried to land elsewhere, and the plane flipped on its roof.

A 32-year-old male pilot and a 38-year-old male passenger, both from Crossfield, were removed from the wreckage.

Police say both were in stable condition when they were taken to Foothills hospital in Calgary for examination.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
