United Way campaign passes halfway mark

United Way in Red Deer is now well past the halfway mark in its efforts to raise $1.96 million to help fund local charities and community projects.

United Way in Red Deer is now well past the halfway mark in its efforts to raise $1.96 million to help fund local charities and community projects.

Campaign headquarters announced on Tuesday that the 2011 drive has now reached $1,193,909 with just over $766,091 to go. Money raised through the organization is redistributed to 20 different groups that provide a variety of services in Red Deer and the surrounding area.

Last year, 92,0000 Central Albertans received help through gifts to United Way, including 5,231 children and youth who were given access to camps, mentor programs, nutritional programs and educational supports.
