Vandals tag more than 40 vehicles with acid

Police are investigating apparent mischief in two neighbourhoods where at least 41 vehicles were tagged with a mysterious acidic white paste.

Police are investigating apparent mischief in two neighbourhoods where at least 41 vehicles were tagged with a mysterious acidic white paste.

Red Deer City RCMP media liaison Cst. Julie Letal says they received numerous complaints on Thursday after residents in the Johnstone Park and Kentwood areas found their vehicles marked with the substance.

Police say the culprit(s) responsible for the mischief placed the substance on the vehicles, which has resulted in paint peeling off, between the hours of 12 a.m. and 7 a.m.

“It is a corrosive-type substance and if people don’t get off right away, it could damage the medal of the vehicle,” Letal said Friday.

Police are asking residents to check their vehicles and report the damage. They are also are looking for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area during the night prior to April 26.

“We encourage people as soon as they find the substance on their vehicles to let us know,” Letal said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Red Deer City RCMP at 403-343-5575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
