Vehicle plunged into Sylvan Lake

Two people were treated for hypothermia at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre after their off-highway vehicle plunged into Sylvan Lake on Monday afternoon.

Two people were treated for hypothermia at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre after their off-highway vehicle plunged into Sylvan Lake on Monday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to a report that a “side by side” off-highway vehicle had broken through the ice on Sylvan Lake.

They found a man and a woman who were operating the off-highway vehicle when it went under the surface.

The occupants of the vehicle were able to get out of the frigid water and crawl to shore. They were transported by ambulance to Red Deer hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

Sylvan Lake Fire and Lake City Towing removed vehicle from the water on Monday.
