LAC BEAUPORT, Que. — Jon Vellner of Red Deer capped off the competitive part of his freestyle ski season with a third-place finish in aerials in the NorAm final Thursday. Vellner finished with a total of 159.69 points with Jean-Christophe Andre of Montreal first at 184.99 and Michael Rossi of the United States at 172.47. Vellner’s scores in his two jumps met the minimum competition standard set by his coaches for the team ranking. Overall this season Vellner reached all his competition goals, including making a World Cup final in Minsk, Russia last week. “I feel the best I’ve ever felt,” said Vellner in a news release. “It’s probably the first time I feel like I truly expect myself to be able to do my best jumping in competition. I’m really motivated for summer training and to, hopefully, do the whole World Cup tour next year.” Sabrina Guerin of Laval, Que., won the women’s title.
