Victim disabled by vicious beating wheeled into dangerous offender hearing

A man convicted of beating an Edmonton man into a vegetative state is back in court to continue a dangerous offender hearing.

EDMONTON — A man convicted of beating an Edmonton man into a vegetative state is back in court to continue a dangerous offender hearing.

Leo Teskey attacked Dougald Miller without provocation in 2000.

The victim’s wife, Leslie Miller, wheeled her husband into court Monday on a gurney to hear the final arguments in the case.

Teskey’s hearing was suspended last year when he fired his lawyer after he was convicted of aggravated assault in a second trial.

The 10-year-old case has involved multiple trials, appeals, including one to the Supreme Court of Canada as well as three changes of lawyers.

Teskey could be held in prison indefinitely if he is declared a dangerous offender.
