Vipers bring down Flyers

Scoring for the Vipers were Justin Moir, Steve Cormack, Troy Klaus, Cole DeGraaf, Jeff Kohut, Ryan Traynor and David Foord. Jarren Nickle made 33 saves for the Vipers, who were outshot 35-25.

In other Heritage League weekend games involving Central Alberta teams:

• The host Stettler Lightning got goals from Lyle Wooden and Brett Ouellette in a 7-2 loss to the Airdrie Thunder on Saturday.

The Lightning were 5-0 winners over the visiting Ponoka Stampeders on Friday as Ouellette, Reese Anheliger, Kyler O’Connor, Douglas Blacklock and Landon Potter each scored once and Simon Thieleman stopped all 35 shots he faced.

Logan Stebner made 34 saves for the Stamps, who dressed only 15 players.

• The visiting Blackfalds Wranglers were 3-2 losers to Airdrie on Friday, with Stephen Pietsch and Dalen Kolybaba scoring in a losing cause and Reagan Hughes making 38 saves.

The Wranglers fired 44 shots at Airdrie netminder Logan Marlow.

• The Three Hills Thrashers, with Cameron Braun scoring twice, knocked off the visiting Mountainview Colts 4-2 on Friday.

Tyrel Severtson and Micah Abbott also tallied for the Thrashers, who got a brilliant 58-save outing from Devon Dell while being outshot 60-29.

The Thrashers buried host Ponoka 12-2 on Saturday, getting two goals from each of Abbott, Connor Ablett, Landon Kletke and Jay Kirkham and singles from Braun, Severtson, Luke Scheunert and Michael Stoetzel.

Brady Hoover stopped 23 shots for the visitors while surrendering goals to Tyler Jones and Cole Pritchard. Ponoka stoppers Stebner and Brody Thomas combined to make 37 saves.
