Volk makes ‘Venture’ list

A former Red Deer city councillor who now heads up an international chain of hairstyling salons has been named to a list of the province’s most prominent people.

A former Red Deer city councillor who now heads up an international chain of hairstyling salons has been named to a list of the province’s most prominent people.

Jason Volk is on Alberta Venture magazine’s 2011 list of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People. Volk is CEO of Chatters Canada, which has more than 100 salons in Canada and the United States.

Other people recognized this year include Patrick Daniel, CEO of Enbridge; Elizabeth Cannon, president of the University of Calgary; Ezra Levant, author of the book Ethical Oil; Theoren Fleury, a former NHL star; and Todd Hirsch, senior economist with ATB Financial.

Volk is the only Central Albertan on the 2011 list of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People, but area residents recognized in the past have included former Red Deer mayor Gail Surkan, former Red Deer College president Ron Woodward, former Olds College president Rob Turner and Rimbey activist Joe Anglin, among others.
