Waddell finishes second

Gabrielle Waddell of Red Deer finished second in the 3,000-metre women’s final at the Canadian short track speed skating championships Sunday.

SAGUENAY, Que — Gabrielle Waddell of Red Deer finished second in the 3,000-metre women’s final at the Canadian short track speed skating championships Sunday.

Waddell came in at five minutes 21.245 seconds, back of Valerie Maltais of Quebec, who was the leading individual skater in the competition.

Waddell, who is still an intermediate skater, finished fourth in the competition while Gillian Richmond of Red Deer was 13th.

Richmond was fourth in the B final, and 12th overall, in the 3,000. Waddell was fourth in the 1,500m final, eighth in the 500 and fifth in the 1,000.

Richmond was 12th in the 500 and 1,000.
