A Ponoka resident is walking to raise awareness about the blind and people with partial sight.

Sue Boman began organizing White Cane Connections Walks in B.C. in March.

She hopes to host these walks across Canada, ending in Newfoundland and Labrador by September.

Boman is legally blind although she does have partial sight.

She uses the designated white cane to help her get around.

Too many people don’t realize what the white cane symbolizes, said Boman. She wants to see that changed.

The walks are also a chance to meet other local white cane users and guide dog owners.

Boman will be walking in Red Deer on June 5.

This will be her 10th walk in Alberta. She asks the public to join her starting at 10:30 a.m. from the main door of the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre on 47A Avenue.

The group will walk towards the Red Deer Lodge. The walk is free and no registration is required.
