Warm weather forced cancellation of Sylvan Lake ice racing

Unseasonably warm temperatures have melted plans for ice racing on Sylvan Lake on Sunday.

Unseasonably warm temperatures have melted plans for ice racing on Sylvan Lake on Sunday.

The motorcycle and quad races by the Second Gear Club may be rescheduled to March 11.

Although the ice is thick enough, water runoff poses some issues, including poor ice conditions and lack of snow banks.

It is the second weekend that ice races in Central Alberta have had to be changed. Last week ice races planned for Gull Lake were moved west to Cow Lake. Another race is scheduled for Cow Lake on Feb. 12.

Thickening ice means the club is hopeful of staging ice races back on Gull Lake on Feb. 19. For more information on the races go online to www.secondgearclub.com or email info@secondgearclub.com
